Staff Council Awards
Welcome to the Staff Council Awards page! We encourage you to recognize your colleagues for the great work they are doing. Here are all the awards we oversee, with links to the full instructions and application information.
PAWS (People Appreciate Wonderful Staff)
The PAWS Award is presented to a staff member who provides exceptional service to the UNM community. This staff exemplifies University values and shows initiative outside of their job scope.
The Staff Council Rewards and Recognition Committee selects a recipient from candidates nominated quarterly by members of the UNM community.
Eligibility: any individual staff member at UNM
Timing: Quarterly
Award: an engraved paw shaped plaque and a “goody bag”
Gerald W. May Outstanding Staff Award
This award recognizes outstanding staff members who have made significant contributions to the University.
Eligibility: any individual staff member at UNM
Timing: annual, nominations accepted in the fall, ceremony in early December
Award: a monetary award and an engraved plaque
Outstanding Supervisor Award
This award recognizes supervisors who create work environments that facilitate work-life balance, professional development, and effective leadership in support of the values and mission of the University.
Eligibility: faculty or staff in a supervisory role for at least one year
Timing: annual, nominations accepted in August, ceremony in mid-October
Award: a $1,000 cash award and an engraved plaque
Jim Davis Staff Council Award for Meritorious Service
The Jim Davis Award is presented each year, during the month of April, to individuals who are current or former Staff Councilors and/or who serve as representatives on standing committees, University-wide committees or ad hoc committees.
Eligibility: is currently or has been a member in good standing with Staff Council, standing committees, or ad hoc committees; has served the Council as a representative or committee member for at least one year; has not received the award in the last 5 years; does not have faculty status
Timing: annual, nominations accepted in the Spring, presentation in April
Award: a plaque
Staff Hero Award
The Staff Council Executive Committee accepts nominations from any staff member, Councilor or committee member that feels certain individuals deserve special recognition from the Staff Council because of their long term support for the Council.
Eligibility: any individual who has provided long term support of the Staff Council
Timing: nominations are accepted at any time, awards are presented at Council meetings
Award: a certificate
Star Awards
The Staff Council President will solicit nominations from the Executive Committee as to which individuals have excelled in their role as Council Representative and/or committee member. The Staff Council President makes the final selection of recipients.
Eligibility: Current Staff Councilor or committee memberTiming: annual, nominations are accepted in December, awards are presented at December Staff Council gathering
